Can You Swing Dance in Boots?

A boot can look like it belongs on a winter street and still be a dance shoe underneath. What decides it is the sole, the heel and the way the boot holds your foot.
Can you swing dance in boots?
Yes, as long as the boot is built for dancing. A street boot with a thick, treaded sole grips the floor on every swivel and turn. A dance boot sits on the same soles as a dance shoe, so it turns when you want it to and holds when you need it to.
Most of our boots are made on the same sole and heel choices as our shoes, in sizes 34 to 48, for women and men.
Which sole should a dance boot have?
The same one you would choose for a shoe, because the floor does not know what is above the ankle. Leather slides the most and suits a well-kept wooden floor. Rubber grips the most, which is what you want outdoors or on a very slick floor. Neolite sits in between and is the safe answer when you do not know the floor yet.
The heel can be leather, rubber, neolite or half leather and half rubber, which gives you the leather slide with a brake on it. There is a longer look at every option in our guide to choosing the sole.
Ankle boots or long boots?
Ankle boots are the easy start. They stop below the calf, so nothing gets in the way of a kick or a Charleston, and most of them lace up close around the ankle so the foot stays in place.
Long boots rise higher up the leg for a stronger vintage look, and they dance on the same soles. Whichever height you choose, make sure the ankle can bend freely.
What heel height works in a boot?
The same range as our shoes: from 2 cm to 6.5 cm, straight or curvy, on most models. For long nights and fast dancing, the lower heels (2 cm straight, 2.5 cm curvy and 3 cm curvy) are the easiest on the calves. More on that in our heel height guide.
Can men swing dance in boots?
Yes. Many of our boots are unisex styles, and every pair is cut to the size you order, from 34 to 48. Leaders who want a vintage look with a little more around the ankle will find them under Men's Boots.
How do I get the right fit in a boot?
Choose your EU size, then enter your foot length and ball width in the boxes on the product page. We check them before anything is cut. Many models also come in narrow, standard or wide fit, and our size guide shows how to measure your foot at home.
Every pair is handmade to order in 10 to 15 business days, and shipping to the USA, Europe and the UK is currently free. Browse women's boots and men's boots.
